I am writing to let you know about an arts project called Helping High School Musicians. The goal of the project is to support musical teens and high school music departments by donating one copy of GIGS: A Beginner's Guide to Playing Music Jobs to every high school library.
A gig is a job playing live music. The book GIGS is an entertaining yet educational text with over 60 cartoons, and is already on the bookshelves of over 1,300 public and school libraries. I wrote the book intending to light fires under students and inspire them to practice, improve and share their music. GIGS especially helps fill the needs of low budget music departments by serving as a teacher, guide and friend to young and amateur musicians.
The Kittredge Educational Fund of Cambridge awarded the project in 2002, allowing for an edition of 1,000 copies to be sent to one thousand high school libraries in Maine and surrounding states. One sixteen year old girl said she read the book in one night!
Has there ever been a time when teens needed more healthful amusements and enriching hobbies in their lives? There are over 40,000 high schools in the US, This goal of giving one book to every library is very attainable.
Please be a part of this effort to reach teens! Helping High School Musicians is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions in behalf of Helping High School Musicians may be made payable to Fractured Atlas and are tax –deductible to the extent permitted by law.
